Who we are
Phototronic Services is an independently owned New Zealand company with a history of repairing cameras and photographic equipment spanning more than 50 years. Based in Terrace End, Palmerston North, we are your local Sony Alpha specialists — stocking cameras, lenses, flash, accessories and providing Sony-authorised repair services for the full range of Sony digital imaging products.
Our technicians are factory trained with years of hands-on experience, and we ensure ongoing training keeps their skills current with the latest Sony technology. This dedication to technical excellence is what sets us apart and keeps customers coming back for over half a century.
Sony Authorised Service Centre
Phototronic Services is New Zealand's authorised Sony service centre and the only authorised service agent for the full Sony digital imaging range — including Sony Alpha cameras and lenses, Cybershot compacts, Handycam video cameras, and Action Cam. This means your equipment is repaired using genuine Sony parts by certified technicians, backed by a 90-day warranty on parts and labour.
In addition to repair services, Phototronic Services is an authorised dealer and reseller for many major photography brands. This means we not only supply equipment but can provide meaningful, experienced advice in helping you select the right gear for your needs — along with the best after-sales support.
Our history
1967 — Phototronic Services Ltd first formed by Rhys and Elaine Dando in Palmerston North.
1971 — Phototronic Services Ltd appointed as Minolta authorised repair agents for New Zealand.
1985 — Kim and Ann Smith took over the company. Kim had worked with Phototronic since 1979, having come from the Minolta agents in the UK.
2006 — Phototronic Services appointed as an authorised Sony service agent for the full Sony digital imaging range.
2006 — Phototronic Services appointed as the sole New Zealand authorised Sony service agent for Sony Alpha equipment.
